Autumn holidays

Autumn holidays are almost there and this time you have decided to stay in Amsterdam, but your kids want to do something exciting. That’s possible, go on expedition in your own neighborhood or another area of Amsterdam. Look, this makes you happy.

Mocca

To be honest I never heard of it until someone dropped the word ‘Buurtexpedities’ (neighborhood expedition). I wanted to know more and so I came on the website of Mocca the expertise center for culture education and read:

‘ Mocca connects children and culture. We bring together schools and the cultural field and provide meaningful cultural education for all Amsterdam children. Children can discover their own creativity and grow up with dance, theatre, museums, music and the arts. Cultural education is indispensable. Culture enriches children. ‘

The expeditions

During the autumn holidays they offer 4 different neighborhood expeditions. Mind you, they are intended mainly for children (and parents) from Amsterdam. They often start up on very special locations such as the Hollandsche Manege, The Hallen, De Dageraad or the Lloyd Hotel.

o Soundtrack City: With your headphones on you walk through another Amsterdam. You walk a route and listen to a special soundtrack with stories of local residents, surprising compositions, never before noticed ambient sounds and the voice of a guide. There are four different tours

o Teacher on the street: These are exciting discovery tours on different places in the city. The children get at every expedition a backpack with an expedition-log with assignments and drawing materials. These expeditions are intended for children from 8 to 12 years.

o Museum Het Schip: Who doesn’t know it? Not, then take a look here? This scavenger hunt in the Spaardammerplantsoen you definitely must do. Also when you know Het Schip and the neighborhood, because there is a lot to discover.

o CBK Zuidoost: Discover while walking with the CBK (Centre for Visual Arts) the streets of Zuidoost (Southeast). They are full of visual art that tell the story of the neighborhood and its inhabitants.

The exact dates, times and locations you can read in the autumn timetable.
