Healthy and vegetarian

Hummus is healthy, vegetarian and fills very well like other legumes. You can get it as a starter, at lunch or at dinner.

Chickpeas

Hummus is made from chickpeas. If you want to create it yourself, the most healthy way is to cook the chickpeas. You have to take some time for that. Let them sit overnight in a pot of water and boil the chickpeas in about 30 minutes.

Basic recipe

The basic recipe for hummus consists of chickpeas, tahini (sesame paste), olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, salt and pepper. But what I like so much about hummus, is that you can combine it with a wide variety of ingredients! With beetroot, eggplant, curry, you name it. I recently made one that I call: hot hummus. It reminds me of Oriental atmospheres, because you add sambal and lime juice to it. I was a little rough on the sambal, so you can imagine how that tastes. You can leave the hummus for three days in the fridge.

Ingredients hot hummus

o 400 grams of cooked chickpeas (cooked or canned)
o 1 dash of olive oil
o 2 limes
o 3 tbsp tahini (sesame paste)
o 2 garlic cloves
o 1 teaspoon of mild sambal
o 1 teaspoon cumin powder

This is how you make it

o Put the drained chickpeas in a blender jar.
o Pour a splash of olive oil.
o Press the garlic and lime and add the juice, tahini, garlic, chilli pepper and cumin to the chickpeas.
o Puree with a hand blender.
o Mix everything well together.
